Update from the SVDP Conference                                                   March, 2021 Lent update

The conference continues to meet fortnightly online using Zoom to say prayers together and carry out our business.

At the beginning of this year, we had to stop our support to the Springburn churches project which delivers food parcels to needy families in the area. This was because we were running low in funds. I am pleased to say that we were able to restart in mid-February thanks to a number of donations we received from parishioners. A reminder on the project:  They deliver food parcels to around 40 households each day. These can be for families, single people or couples who are recommended by social work, churches or doctors. We help them by purchasing tinned food and toiletries in Lidl each week and delivering them to the project.

As we can no longer collect funds at masses, we will soon again run out of money to support this worthwhile cause and any other local requests for help that we receive. If you would like to help by contributing to the conference, we would appreciate if you could do this online with a one-off donation or regular standing order – however small – to our account with the Royal Bank of Scotland, sort code 83-16-13, account number 00257094, title SSVP St Matthews.

If you would like more information or need help from the conference for yourself or someone else, please call us on 07519 188138 or speak to any member of the conference.

Over the past few months, we have had a number of anonymous donations for which we are most grateful. Thank you everyone for your support.

November 2020

The conference continues to meet fortnightly online using Zoom to say prayers together and carry out our business.

As our Sunday Supper Club has not been in operation since lockdown, we wanted to do something to help those in need with the funds which we had. I contacted Fr McGrath at St Aloysius, Springburn to see if help was needed there. He put me in touch with a project being run by the local churches to feed families in need in the area. They deliver food parcels to around 40 households each day. These can be for families, single people or couples who are recommended by social work, churches or doctors. We are now helping them by purchasing tinned food and toiletries in Lidl each week and delivering them to the project.
